Jordy Lucas has gone from a successful acting career, starring as Summer in Neighbours, to running her own online publication, She Does This. In just a few years, she’s worked hard to grow She Does This and develop a platform that inspires, motivates and informs women. We caught up with Jordy to chat all things acting, publishing and everything in between!

From acting in Neighbours to running a female empowered publication, can you tell us a bit about this journey and how She Does This was born?

After Neighbours I moved to LA for two and a half years. During that time, I started studying a Bachelor of Communications online (majoring in Journalism and PR). I already had a social media following and had so many female friends running side hustles, so I thought I’d create a platform to give them some exposure and work on my writing skills! It started slow but I’ve grown an audience for She Does This which I’m really proud of.

You’ve done some pretty cool things over your career – what’s been the highlight?

Working on Neighbours is something I’m incredibly proud of to this day. It really was a life dream that I was able to achieve so it’s shown me that hard work really does pay off, which is a great life lesson. A few months ago I got to interview Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama’s skin clinician too, which was pretty incredible. Interviewing someone who is being featured by the likes of Marie Claire and other well-known publications was a huge confidence booster for me and the work I was doing.

You launched She Does This in 2015, have you seen any major differences in online publishing between now and then?

I think the biggest change has been the demand for publications to be accessible across different platforms. Having a strong presence across social media and the like is vital as this is where you’re likely to gain most of your site traffic from. It’s no use publishing an article and simply hoping it gets read. You need to be pushing it across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest or wherever you feel your audience is.

What can we expect to see next?

2019 is going to be a big one for She Does This! We’re going to be sharing more business tips as well as social media advice and services for female led businesses. In terms of the site, we’re launching a celebrity page for our hugely popular celeb interviews and one other section which I’m going to keep hush hush for now. But stay tuned!

The most fundamental ingredient in life is…?

Perspective. If you don’t have that you’ll find yourself focusing or dwelling on things that aren’t important. This will hinder progress in all aspects of your life.

You’re marooned on an island – name three people you’d want there with you and why?

My Mum, Dad and boyfriend. We’d probably drive each other insane but they’re literally the most important people to me.
